Perugia where elegance meets natural beauty

Michael and Camilla - Wedding in Perugia - Italian Wedding Planners

Simplicity, elegance, tradition and country style. These were the key characteristics that Camilla and Michael wanted to feature in their wedding. And SposiamoVi was standing at the ready to give them just that!

He is from Copenhagen. She comes from New York. And, at the time, they were both living in Kampala. Italy proved to be an attractive central point for them and their wedding guests. Additionally, Camilla’s family owns a beautiful villa just outside the city of Perugia that lies perched atop the cosy Umbrian hillside. The perfect place to hold a traditional Italian wedding.

All the guests gathered from all over the world together in Perugia’s beautiful Piazza IV Novembre, the beating heart of Perugian culture and life, before going as one in to the heart-stoppingly gorgeous Sala dei Notari for the ceremony. Not merely a town hall, the Sala dei Notari is a frescoed, age-old meeting place that is now frequently referred to as one of the most stunning town halls in all of Italy.

Michael stood dashing and ready at the altar, taking in the exquisite frescos, smiling at the seated guests and patiently awaiting his future bride together with his Danish best man.

Camilla and her father Riccardo arrived at the Piazza IV Novembre in a charming old Renault 4. Oh, so Italian!

Their arrival was met with the applause and praise of passers-by while children gazed wide-eyed with fascination at Camilla in her lovely, vintage inspired wedding gown. The level of excitement rose inside the Sala as the guests all stood to welcome the spectacular bride and her father.

The lovely civil ceremony was held in three languages – Italian, English and Danish – and selected readings were read to the soft, poignant sounds of a superb string quartet.

Finally, Camilla and Michael were pronounced Man and Wife; he could kiss his bride! After the ceremony, all the guests stood outside the Sala to celebrate the couple with the traditional tossing of flower petals and rice.

The superb dinner began just before the sun set. Romantic candles lit up the well-laid alfresco dinner tables as the guests and the newlyweds sat down to a truly incredible Umbrian meal. The natural views provided by the Umbrian valley at sun set were outstanding. From Todi to Assisi and Perugia.

High-spirited tradition and touching, funny speeches were also not to be missed. For example, according to Danish tradition, when any of the guests hits a pot repeatedly with a knife the bride and groom have to stand on their chair and kiss each other.

Throughout the evening, each guest could leave a video message to Camilla and Michael on an iPad; a little surprise for them to help capture the emotions and memories of their special day.

After dinner, Camilla and Michael cut the wedding cake. The bar was open as everybody waited impatiently for the couple’s first dance. One dance led to another, then another… 5 hours of exuberant dancing was driven by a first-rate DJ who kept the groove going strong the whole night.

The next day our wedding planner received a grateful voice message of thanks from Camilla: she was extremely happy with how the whole wedding weekend came together! This gave great personal and professional satisfaction to the wedding planner, as well to SposiamoVi.
