This ancient feudal hamlet consists of the church with its bell tower dated
1000, the adjacent castle and a small group of houses, a splendid example of
medieval architecture
The converted medieval castle from before the 12th century set in a grassy field,
houses one of Chianti's most famous luxury hotels. The rooms have a simple but
tasteful decor, with reproduction and genuine country-style antiques, including
some massive wooden desks and wrought-iron 19th-century bed frames. Most have
ancient worn terra-cotta tile floors and views of the valley below.
No room in the Castle is overly spacious, but the semi-lofted corner suites
in the main building are sizable, with fantastic cross ribbing of heavy hewn
wood beams on the ceilings.
Suites in the outbuilding are particularly nice, with two rooms and their own
little terraces overlooking the hotel's vineyards.
Rooms of the deluxe category and above have Jacuzzi tubs in the modernized bathrooms.
Meals are served outdoors during warm weather, and the restaurant here enjoys
an excellent reputation. In the historic part of the castle, where the restaurant
is located, there is also a wonderful bar on the ground floor.
From the vast grassy terraces guests can enjoy the quiet and beauty of the
surrounding countryside.
The internal courtyard, dominated by the ancient bell tower, is perfect for
suggestive candlelight dinners accompanied of light sound of harp and violin.
There are two swimming pools, one outdoors with a pleasant waterfall, the other
indoor, heated during the winter months. A sauna and gym, tennis court and billiard
room complete the activities available.
